1918 was important for 2 things………….firstly, after many sacrifices and hard work the Suffragettes were able to get the Representation of the People Act of 1918 through Parliament which gave Women the vote for the first time. secondly, it saw the creation of Ashford Middlesex Bowls Club.
Moving forward to 2018, the Club for the first time in its history has a Lady President – Marion Bushnell and a Lady Club Captain – Brenda Astridge…….added to that the Club has a Lady Secretary Carole Daines and a Lady Treasurer Sylvia Smith.
2018 – the Men Ron Searle and the Fixture Secretary)have organised 2 new initiatives. (1) Three Counties Tournament with Bucks(Iver Heath), Middx(Ashford), Surrey (Egham) Ashford will host the first match on Sun 2nd Sept.
(2) Disability Tournament Sun 15th July, Richard Tindall is with the assistance from Ron Searle, Mick Delaney & Keith Robinson are hoping after inviting some Disability Bowls Clubs from Surrey to play, that it will encourage more Local Disability Groups to try out the Sport. Egham & Dorking Bowls Club have offered some equipment. After Richard, Ron & Keith attended such an event at Dorking in 2017, it encouraged them to put something back into the Sport they love. The Dorking Club Members they spoke to enjoyed the Event which they have held for several years.
